Navigation and instruments

Navigation using digital maps combined with GPS and AIS is indispensable. Ease of use and relatively low costs have also made (rugged) tablets popular. We design and install a customized solution for you.

Autopilot

A reliably functioning and well-configured autopilot makes the difference between a comfortable trip and a tiring challenge.

Travel planning

Identifying a good weather window and choosing a favorable route is crucial for a comfortable and safe journey. It's convenient if you can easily transfer the latest route update from your laptop to your chartplotter.

Expertise and advice

The right combination

There's a huge selection of different software packages, apps, and chartplotters. Based on our hands-on experience, we'll recommend a suitable solution that offers a good and reliable user experience both during your trip preparations and during the journey itself. We work with B&G chartplotters in combination with Orca Navigation , Navionics Boating , and Predictwind . All data from the onboard network can be made available on your phone, tablet, and PC via an NMEA2000 Ethernet gateway such as the Orca Core and/or Yacht Devices YDEN-02 .

AIS for peace and safety

As you approach the southwest coast of England from the Azores in the dark, you'll experience the indispensability of AIS. Both seeing and being seen is an absolute must. There's no substitute for a good watch, but a reliable AIS setup makes your journey much more enjoyable. Configuration involves details such as the same AIS data on all onboard devices, a single, primary GPS source, a robust alarm setup for offshore use, an automatic link with a location and tracking service provider for those at home, and thorough instructions on how to use the entire system.

Marine radio

The marine radio is a crucial facility. Good intelligibility at the helm, in particular, is often a problem. We recommend a good second handset at the helm. For reliability reasons, we do not use antenna splitters. Marine radios with integrated AIS are now also available, which provide better results.

Anchor alarm

A reliable anchor alarm is important for your peace of mind and a good night's sleep. You'll regularly go ashore while at anchor. Remote alerts via a notification on your phone also provide peace of mind in that scenario. If you have Starlink, this is easily accomplished, for example, with solutions from Orca Navigation .

Knowledge

Training is essential for safe and accurate navigation on board. A well-trained crew can interpret weather forecasts, plan a safe voyage, operate navigation systems correctly, and respond appropriately to changing conditions. This reduces the risk of navigation errors, increases safety, and ensures a responsible voyage.

Support

Not everyone is an electrical installer. If desired, AquaGrid Marine provides remote support for delivered installations, via Starlink, even if you're in the middle of the ocean. If necessary, we also travel to international locations for work.
