Internet everywhere with Starlink

Onboard internet has become practically indispensable, and Starlink offers an affordable solution for this, even offshore. We design and install the Starlink antenna, Wi-Fi router, and wired UTP network, as well as integration with your audio, video, and electrical systems.

Starlink

The heart of the Starlink system is the antenna. Modern technology has made gyro-stabilized dishes obsolete. Reception remains reasonably reliable, even under tilt and in large waves. We install your antenna securely and robustly, custom-made for your vessel.

Network

From a budget perspective, we recommend using a separate Wi-Fi router with SIM card support for mobile networks. We handle all custom installation and configuration.

Integration

Starlink's availability offers a wide range of possibilities for integrating internet with navigation, audio, video, and electrical systems. We provide personalized training to help you maximize your use of these features.

Expertise and advice

Power and connection

Depending on the model you choose, we install your Starlink antenna with a converter (POE injector) connected to your 12V/24V onboard electrical system. This eliminates the need for a 220V supply, and the system uses your available power more efficiently. We also connect your Starlink antenna to your Wi-Fi router via cable for the most reliable result.

Mobile network

When you're within range of the 4G/5G mobile network, you can choose to temporarily pause your Starlink service for cost reasons. If desired, we can install a Wi-Fi router that automatically switches between Starlink and mobile networks. You can also manage your Starlink costs for offshore use by setting personalized time slots and data limits. This prevents unexpected bills. We install Peplink routers with 5G SIM support.

Telephony

Starlink allows you to make offshore (video) calls using popular apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, and Signal. However, conventional international calls via Wi-Fi (e.g., a mobile phone number or a landline) are suppressed by major telecom providers. If desired, we can set up a very affordable Voice over IP (VOIP) service for you, allowing you to make and receive international calls on your own mobile phone.

Wired connections

From a reliability perspective, wired connections are preferred over wireless. We install UTP network cabling for the most important connections, such as your Starlink antenna (Ethernet), Wi-Fi router, desktop computer, audio/video equipment, navigation equipment (NMEA2000), and electrical system (CAN). All data from the onboard systems is reliably available on your network for PCs, tablets, and mobile phones.

Knowledge

Training is essential for reliable internet on board. A well-trained crew understands the operation of the various components and can identify and resolve malfunctions early. This reduces the risk of failure, increases safety on board, and ensures the continuity of critical systems.

Support

Not everyone is a network specialist. If desired, AquaGrid Marine provides remote support for delivered installations, even if you're located in the middle of the ocean. If necessary, we also travel to international locations for work.
